Fun Thanksgiving Learning Activities

Last month we shared some of our favorite fall-themed learning activities. Now that Thanksgiving is just around the corner, we wanted to give you some more ideas for seasonal activities. Read on for crafts and games with an educational twist!

String of leaves: This string of leaves is so pretty and would be perfect for hanging above a doorway or on a fireplace mantel. As a bonus for the non-crafty parent, this one requires very basic supplies and has simple instructions. It’s a good way for a younger child to practice her cutting skills.

Mini maracas nature craft: Using one section of an egg carton, dried beans, a craft stick, paint, construction paper, and pipe cleaners, you can make a festive instrument that looks like a pumpkin. These are cute to look at, and little ones will love shaking them up after they’re done making them.

DIY leaf catcher: For this project you’ll need an embroidery hoop, which you can get for a few dollars at a craft store. This craft combines a handmade project with an exercise in gratitude… perfect for this time of year.

Woven placemat: This craft is a great way to practice fine motor skills and reinforce the idea of patterns. You can talk with your child about how all weaving used to be done by hand. When you’re done, you’ll have decor for your Thanksgiving table.

Fingerprint tree: Here’s a craft that’s perfect to do with toddlers, using the free printable provided, some festive-themed paint, and your little one’s fingerprints.

Thanksgiving trivia: This can be a fun Thanksgiving morning activity with grade school kids. Quiz each other on your knowledge of Thanksgiving and what they’ve been learning about it in school.

No-bake pumpkin cookies: Here’s an easy, Thanksgiving-themed recipe to make together and add to your feast.
